CAN
Can is used to make basic requests from a friend or
co-worker. It is often used for small things.
Can + Subject + Verb
EXAMPLES:Can you lend me $10?
Can I borrow your car?
COULD
Could is more polite than can, but has the same function.Could + Subject + Verb
EXAMPLE:Could you pass the juice please?
Could you help me with my homework Mr. Ramos?
WOULD
Would you open the door for me?
would is the past tense form of will. Because it is a past tense, it is used:
to talk about the past
to talk about hypotheses (when we imagine something)
for politeness.
WOULD YOU MIND
Would you mind + Verb + ING
EXAMPLE:Would you mind closing the door?
WILL
EXAMPLE: Will you turn off your mobile phone, please?
We use will:
to express beliefs about the present or future
to talk about what people want to do or are willing to do
to make promises, offers and requests.
