Bases and Acids
Acids are sour in taste. Ions are present in acids and they have an electric charge. A large number of hydrogen ions are present in a substance which makes them acidic.

Bases are bitter in taste and feel soapy this is because bases contain many hydroxide ions, they have a slight negative electric charge.
Example: Lemonade, Vinegar
Example: Baking soda, soap, bleach
Most common acids: Sulfuric acid, Nitric acid, Hydrochloric acid, citric acid and acidic acid.
Acids at home: carbonic acid (soft drinks), acidic acid (vinegar), lemon (citric acid)

To know whether a substance is acidic or basic in nature we can use indicators. They change their color accordingly when in an acidic or basic solution.
Natural indicators: turmeric, china rose petals, red cabbage, blueberries, grapes and litmus.
