A) Sensory Modulation problem - Coggle Diagram
A) Sensory Modulation problem
Criteria
difficulty in modulating, discriminating & organizing sensory input
difficulty with self-regulation, in terms of arousal states (under or overresponsive)
difficulty in interacting effectively to demands of environment, relationships and tasks
difficulty adapting to challenges in daily life
Sensory Over-Responsive
quick or intense response to sensory stimuli
sensory input is overwhelming the child
often reacts defensively to the ordinary input with strong emotion & activation of the sympathetic nervous system
often irritable, aggressive, impulsive and moody
frequently cries & hard to console
covers ears from loud noises
sensitive to bright light
had difficulty transitions to new food
fears movement or changes in position
Sensory Under-Responsivity
slow response to sensory stimuli, requires a high intensity or increased duration of stimuli to elicit a behavioural response
tends to miss or take longer time to respond
doesn't register relevant stimuli - overly focused on irrelevant stimuli
normally does not give respond to low intensity stimuli
high pain tolerance
flat affect most of the time
does not seem to notice noxious odours
appears slow, unmotivated, unaware or withdrawn
seems "lost in fantasy world"
Sensory Seeking/Craving
actively seeking sensation often in socially unacceptable way
has a high activity level, seldom sits still
touches everything
hangs on people/objects
smells or mouths everything
takes excessive risks that compromise personal safety
often mouths or licks non-food items
risk taker
intrude on others
