RESEARCH QUESTIONS AND HYPOTHESES
Research Question
Methodological point of departure of scholarly research in both the natural sciences and humanities
A formal statement of the goal of the study
States clearly from what is known or believed to be true (as determined by the literature review) to that is unknown and requires validation
Research Hypotheses
A specific statement of prediction
It is a logical supposition, a reasonable guess, and educated conjecture.
Provides a tentative explanation for a phenomenon under investigation
Important of Research Question
Choosing a research question is the central element of both qualitative and quantitative research and in some cases it may precede construction of the conceptual framework of study
It makes the theoretical assumptions in the framework more explicit, most of all it indicates what the researcher want to know most
Developing A Research Question
1) A good question
2) So what?
3) Reflect on it
4) The buzz test
5) The reality test
Evaluate your own research question
Important of Research Hypotheses
It guides the research
To collect the right kind of data needed
To locate information needed to resolve the research problem
How To Create Research Hypotheses
1) Hypotheses derived from theory and/or related research, logical argument, or the opinions of others
2) The hypotheses is formulated following the review of related literature and prior to the execution of the study
3) Research hypotheses also can be derived from the propositions suggested from the qualitative research
