UNDERSTANDING KNOWLEDGE AND RESEARCH
Introduction
Aim: To discuss some of the basic understanding of knowledge on research
Comprehensive understanding
Help student to identify the cause and background of important things they learned in a more systematic and effective ways
Different Sources of Knowledge
Knowledge can be categorised and obtained from various ways on knowledge
Intuitive Knowledge
An approach in acquiring knowledge that is not based on reasoning or inferring and sometimes based on feelings
Authoritative Knowledge
Based on information received from people, books, a supreme being, etc
Can originate from persons or sources that are highly respected
Logical Knowledge
Arrive by reasoning from "point a" (which is generally accepted) to point "b" (the new knowledge)
Based on the statement which says, "if I have experienced it, then it valid and true"
Research Ontology, Epistemology, and Methodology
Ontology
Defines as the fundamental categories of reality
The domain of ontology as distinct from formal ontology is related to the focus of study
Formal ontology inquiry is to say something general about reality, the domain ontology says something specific about different area of reality
As for the domain ontology, each research has its own epistemology
Epistemology
Epistemology is the investigation into the grounds and nature of knowledge itself
The study of epistemology focuses on our means for acquiring knowledge and how we can differentiate between truth and falsehood
What is knowledge?
How is knowledge acquired
How do we know what we know
What do people know?
Methodology
To do with the tools and techniques of research
How can the inquirer go about finding out whatever he or she believes can be known?
Conclusion
Research activities are important to contribute to a better life of human being
New fact will discover and will provide findings which help human being to understand better about the social phenomenon occured
Three important terminologies are relevant to guide a researcher to perform good empirical research
Takes the form such as belief, faith, intuition, etc
