Ideas of fatherland and citizen emphasised a united country
Estates General elected by body of active citizens and renamed National Assembly
New hymns were composed and oaths were taken and martyrs commemorated
Centralized admin system put in and uniform laws were formulated
Internal custom duties and dues were abolished and system of weights and measures adopted
Regional dialects discouraged and French became common lang.
Students and members of educated middle class set up Jacobin clubs
French armies moved into Holland, Belgium, Switzerland & Italy during 1790's
French armies carried idea of nationalism

However soon turned hostile
