QUALITATIVE
Qualitative modes of data analysis provide ways of discerning, examining, comparing and contrasting, interpreting meaningful patterns or themes
Qualitative analysis involves examining the assembled relevant data to determine how they answer the evaluation question(s) at hand

PROCESSES
Data reduction
process of selecting, focusing, simplifying, abstracting, and transforming the data that appear in written up field notes or transcriptions
Data display
whether in word or diagrammatic form it allow the analyst to extrapolate from the data to begin to discern systematic patterns and interrelationships
Conclusion, drawing and verification
involves stepping back to consider what the analysed data mean and to assess their implications for the questions at hand
FORMATS

Discourse analysis
look at patterns of speech, such as how people talk about a particular subject, what metaphors they use, how they take turns in conversation

PROCESSING THE DATA
need to think about the data from the moment information is collected
need to judge the value of data, especially that which may come from dubious sources
As the research progresses, need to interpret the data to gain an understanding of what is going on.
Finally, need to undertake the mechanical process of analysing the data.

ADVANTAGES
- understands the human experience in specific settings
- discover the participants’ inner experience, and figure out how meanings are shaped through and in culture
- data collection through interviews
- has a flexible structure as the design can be constructed and reconstructed to a greater extent
DISADVANTAGES
leave out contextual sensitivities, and focus more on meanings and experiences.
