CHAPTER 10
RESEARCH DESIGN
Exploratory research
Exploratory research aims to gain insights and ideas. It is particularly helpful in breaking broad, imprecise problem statements into smaller and more precise sub-problem statements
Casual research
Casual research is based on the principle of causality which gives emphasis to the relationship between cause and effect.
This type of study is appropriate to show relationships between variables involved in the research framework
Descriptive research
Descriptive research involves a large proportion of social science research.
The purposes of this research are to provide a clear picture of specific issues, to describe the characteristics of certain research problems, and to estimate and to make prediction of the social phenomena
RESEARCH DESIGN
Survey
participants are selected randomly from a sample can represent the characteristics of studied population,
survey is a flexible procedure because data can be collected via various techniques
survey can be used to evaluate theories (i.e., theoretical, model or conceptual framework)
Case Study
it is suitable to examine a particular issue that is little known or not thoroughly studied
it is able to investigate individuals or programs changes affected by certain circumstances or interventions
it is useful to provide preliminary support to develop research questions and/or hypotheses.
Correlational Study
It is a study of the relationship (association) between one or more independent variables (cause variable) and one or more dependent variables (effect or outcome variable).
Cross-Sectional Study
It divides people into different groups (also called as sections), data collected at a single time from these groups, and findings from data analysis are compared between these groups.
Longitudinal Study
It is used to continue studies about particular issues that have been done previously.
Data which is related to the characteristics of population under study are collected at different times (e.g., several months or years) to understand further about the issues that are studied
Grounded Thoery
lt is a method of developing a theory based on data collected from the field study settings (a researcher interviews employees who have worked in an organisation).
