CHAPTER 4: FOUNDATIONS FOR GOOD RESEARCH
Clarity of Purpose
research must be clear and explicity.
-problem & decision should be clearly defined & sharply delineated.
Relevance
-Contribution to existing knowledge
addressing real problem or issue
timeless- relevance to contemporary concern.
Originality
Identify on how research activities can be considered to have it own originally and are as follow.
Establishing a new theoretical model.
Carrying out a previously original work designed by a researcher.
-Providing a single original technique, observation or result in an otherwise unoriginal but competent piece of work.
-Taking a particular technique and- applying it on a new area or situation.
Making compare between similar situation to see what can be learned from the process.
Manageable research
researcher need to plan carefully the time lines from small-scale research project.
attend lecture and performing other student responsibilities.
Accuracy
Bench-making: comparing the finding with any relevant external criteria.
Checking result with interested and objective group/informed people to see what their response are to findings.
Credibility
Include full and detailed accounts of its methodology to convince the reciters.
Objectivity
Important for researcher to be open about the sponsorship.
Researcher need to be clear about their own value.
Researcher need to report continuously, systematically & without any prejudice about the research process and finding.
Ethical approach to research
-Ethical issue:
The right of privacy if individual
Voluntary nature of participant
Consent&possible deception of participant
Behaviour&objective of the researcher
Applicability
-To produce finding and conclusion that can apply to other similar situation.
Aim- to select a sample( of data, people, practice, etc)
-Important to make sure the research topic is timely and become the contemporary issue.
