- Prior to European settlement
- Aboriginal Australians . No waste
- Piles of shells , fish bones, other animals and stone tools created by the indigenous did not create any pollution on the landscape over the thousands of years
Early European Australia
- In colonial Sydney of the late 18th and early 19th century, citizens were expected to dispose of their own refuse
- This was done by a cesspit or privy which was dug into the yard space behind the main house.

- 3 bin system introduced (2006)
- By 2007 overall recycling had reached 52%

4. FUTURES
Sweden
- In 2015, Sweden imported 2.3 million tonnes of waste from Norway, the UK, Ireland and elsewhere to fuel its incinerators.
- It has created a system that is reliant on waste as a fuel source.
Could this be Australia's future?

- Better education about waste and recycling

- More funding for recycling and waste solutions
- biodegradable materials
- Banning non-biodegradable plastics
- Changing policies
