Second Intention healing

Wounds left to heal by: granulation, epithelialisation and contraction
Indications
severe contamination, infected/ chronic
skin loss, trauma, swelling, devitalised tissue

AIMS: hasten inflam. and debridement stage, promote granulation and control XS, facilitate contraction and epithelialisation
WOUND PREP
-
Debride: remove foreign material and necrotic tissue, sharp OR lavage

BANDAGING

Tertiary layer: conforming, elasticated wrap e.g. vet wrap

WOUND LOCATION
Head
-
minimal movement, good blood supply, minimal tension if no skin loss
