Segway
Physics on it
-
-
Gyroscope
Once a gyroscope starts to spin, it resists forces that try to change the orientation of its spin axis
-
-
When the driver leans forward or backward, the gyroscopes detect the change in the center of gravity
they send signals to the motors to provide a force to move the wheels forward or backwards in order to stay under the mass of the driver
-
Accelerates
Use of Newton Law
A: acceleration is the ratio of F to M, A=F over M (A=F/M)
-
-
the acceleration comes from tipping your body forward which causes the torque in the wheels accelerates you and the Segway
Third law of Newton
At rest, the Segway exerts a force (the amount of which is dependent on its mass ) downward onto the ground
-
-
Movement of the wheels
-
-
-
2 wheels
to maintain balance, it turns the wheels at just the right speed, so you move forward
