The longlasting implications of technology and new media
The Ubiquitous Nature of Technology
Technology being embeded into productivity and what we believe we are capable of- if the internet shut down would you be able to do your daily task?
Being able to text or call our friends or family without thinking about what a privilege it is to communicate with people when they are not in close proximity
Rewiring our brains to depend on Google for answers or looking at a map online to know where we are going
No longer used to just going to the library to look up the answer or using cardinal directions
Constant notifications of something happening- accessing a new online world where everything is interconnected
Emotionally tied to our phones, wake up every day and go to bed every day with your phone
Inauthentic fabrications of a self image
Camera usage and taking selfies, constant exposure to what we look like and expectations in our head of what we should look like
Posting a picture and building expectations of what you should look like
Becoming "reactive" human beings and seeking belonging
We want that feeling of someone calling or texting us to know that someone is thinking of us and wanting to reach out even though that might not be how people show they care.
We want to feel sought out after and technology effects our sense of belonging.
With social media, we want to be liked or followed and that might not be a true indication of whether that people actually likes us or wants to be our friend.
Our mood is very effected by the presence of technology.
The buzzes and dings are anticipated by us
We anticipate a call, text, or message from our phones even though that message might not be important or relevant to the information we are given
Cluttering our lives with a new form of dependency
Figuring out how to declutter our lives and find technology meanings that are more useful
Messages and content that we receive can be useless spam, instead of actually bringing value into our lives
Seeing something on your phone but not really looking at it closely
Skimming instead of deep reading- so much content on the internet that we are training our brains to skim through the information instead of actually absorbing it
Using an ipod shuffle not to listen to music but to anticipate the next song
Positives of technology in 2020: Coronavirus and Black Lives Matter Movement
Spread the messages online to reach a larger audience
Zoom communicating to the teachers
BLM new pathways to protest, online voting, signing petitons online
Being able to continue to be a student during the pandemic, having educational resources moved online and classrooms still continuing to learn
