There was barely any room in the city any empty tenements were filled up very quickly.
Owners built more walls to divide the tenements into smaller blocks since they felt they could make more money.
Most kids that lived in tenements died of suffocation due to very bad air quality.
Since there was a big demand for the tenements two families homes housed ten families.
the first tenements built in New York were the homes of the Knickerbockers.
The New York City lifestyle was very crowded and dirty due to the poor tenement living.
As the owners started moving out the poor people started moving in , because they needed a cheap place to live.
