Roadmap Values
- Prioritise them (Workshop 1 - Create 3 to 5 values - 1 hour)
- How and where do we talk about them? (Workshop 2 - half hour)
- Values in Action - Living and Breathing Values (Workshop 2 - hour on each value)
- Let's create them. (Workshop 1 - 2 hours)
- Set scene.... (Workshop 1 - 15 minutes)
Values represent the core of who we are, what we do, and how we define success and failure.
“Values are not created, they’re uncovered. Like carving a bear from a block of stone, you aren’t creating it, you’re uncovering it by removing everything that’s not the bear.” – Didier Elzinga, Founder & CEO, Culture Amp.
Workshop tasks
- Relevance – Why is this value important to our company?
Articulating the relevance can be the ‘ah-ha’ moment for people where they understand why the values exists
- Meaning – What does this value mean to you? Articulating what a value means at both a conceptual and personal level is an important first step. It’s hard to get excited about something if you don’t understand what it means for you.
- Mutuality – What is required from others to keep this value alive? Mutuality is often missed, yet it is at the heart of bringing your values to life and ensuring more consistency. When you look at a value it should tell you two things – what can you expect from the company and what the company expects from you. Individuals may be acting in a way that is aligned with your values, but if they don’t receive the right support from those around them, they will never stick.
Come to workshop with with an example of an organisation or leader you truly admire and present what makes you feel that way.
Get individuals to write down statements on post its - starting with "I believe…” on what they feel is fundamental to how things are done at Roadmap along with “We are/believe/strive for…” - Read them out aloud, group common themes
- Can we do this on a coggle during the workshop?
Looking back at the moments where you were most proud of the work you or your team did, why exactly do you feel that way? On the flip side, what makes you most frustrated or angry?
