Equations
-
SHC: ΔE = mcΔθ
Specific heat capacity: The amount of energy needed to raise the temperature of 1kg of a substance by 1°C
-
Power: = E/t & P = W/t
Power: The rate at which energy is transferred / the rate at which work is done. Watt: an energy transfer of 1 joule per second

-
Energy can be transferred usefully, stored or dissipated, but cannot be created or destroyed.
Only some of then energy in a system is fully transferred, the rest is 'wasted'/dissipated into the surroundings.
Some ways of reducing reducing unwanted energy transfers are: Using an insulator to prevent thermal energy transferring into the surroundings, buying LED lightbulbs which are more efficient.
Eg, some energy in a lightbulb is wasted, as it heats up/gets used for thermal energy
