Piecing the Presentation together
Slide Design and Layout
only include relevant images, and make sure tables and graphs are clear/readable
Keep it simple: limit use of images, sounds, and transitions
use consistent theme and appropriate layout
Quotes and References
Citation
all images and information sources must be given a citation
often citations are posted in Notes section of conclusion slide
Direct quotes can be used if...
quotation marks are used
in-text citations are offered
the quote stands alone
Slide Content
Only include
essential information
Follow the 5x5 rule
Information should be clearly written
use at least 18 pt font
No paragraphs
use bulleted, simple phrases
slide title should NOT be repeated in the bullets
Limit 10- 12 slides per presentation
Presenting
Follow speaker notes to stay focused; do NOT read from the slides!
allow for wait time so your audience can process information
Practice, practice, practice
Preparation
Research until you are the expert. Be sure to use credible sources!
Narrow the focus of your presentation. Identify a clear objective that you want your audience to achieve.
Outline your ideas in the NOTES section of the presentation BEFORE you create slides
