Need to get recognition from the employer first
As the recognition not given, trade union cannot commence collective bargaining
Recognition is a formal acknowledgement by an employer
Collective Bargaining is a method of setting terms and conditions of employment by negotiating
Advantages of Recognition
Can represent individual members who a grievance or complaint
Can negotiate for better terms and condition on behalf of all workers in the workplace
Procedures
Fill out the claim for recognition and give to the employer
Copy form will also be forwarded to Director-General of Industrial Relation
States its name and address and specify the workers
copy of the unions constitution
The employer has 3 responsible
To give recognition
To refuse recognition
Request the Director-General of Industrial Relation to verify on certain particulars about the trade union
Types of Recognition
Limited and General
Limited is entitled to make representations on individual grievance
General Is to make representation not only in relation to individual grievance but in relation to general terms and condition of service on behalf of all workmen
