Causes
- as the air cooled, it condensed to form heavy rain and the weather front stopped over Cumbria
- the large amounts of rain went into the River Derwent and River Cocker
- warm air from the mid-Atlantic headed towards land because of the prevailing winds
- Cockermouth is at the rivers' confluence so they suffered from a significant amount of flooding
- that warm air was forced upwards by the Cumbrian Mountains
