Set after the LA riots is shown how in schools how there is still segregation and racism even though intergration in schools has occurred. The film explores all different things effecting the teenagers lives fri, gang violence to inequality to racism
Assertive language
Assertive tone and high modality language
Juxtaposition
“ I don’t see no one else that look like me with their pockets full of money unless they rapping a lyric or dribbling a ball .”
This explains to the audience that the stereotypes have been carried out from generation to generation leading the students to not try or want to go to college or university.
This stuns the responders with the language being so direct yet so true. This unravels some problems that other races have to face with white superiority.
“ it’s all about colour. It’s about people deciding what you deserve. About whites thinking they run this world no matter what. You see I hate white people.”
The juxtaposition of, innocently buying snacks/ playing games/ hanging out then sudden death occurs
This shows the audience just how brutal and easy coming environments death can come in even if it’s sudden or not there would still be mass effects.
