Types of phrases
Noun phrases
Verb phrases

Adjective phrases
AdjP have an adjective as head, and optional modifiers that can
precede or follow the adjective
Adverb phrases
Are like AdjP in structure, except that the head is an adverb ( H + modifiers)
Prepositional phrases
Consist of a preposition followed by
a noun phrase, known as the prepositional complement

PP also take complement clauses as complements, but normally these are only wh-clauses and ing-clauses
A phrase with a noun; can be preceded by
determiners, and can be accompanied by modifiers

NP can be headed by proper nouns, prnouns, and sometimes adjectives
For each class of lexical word, there is a major phrase type with an example of
that class as the head
