Recognize a child may be struggling in the classroom.
Meet with parents or guardians to discuss the child’s behavior and possible parental concerns (Project IDEAL, 2013).
Is the issue recurring or new?
Is the issue constant?
Is the issue appropriate for children of this age?
Start to implement differentiation and personalized learning to make things easier for the student.
Have student choice (Khan, 2015).
Set short-term and long-term goals (Morin, 2020).
Create a learner profile on the student (Morin, 2020).
Keep an up-to-date record on the student’s individual strengths, needs, motivations, progress, and goals.
Use personalized learning paths (Morin, 2020).
Allow the student to work on different skills at different paces from their peers.
Use several evaluation methods.
Create a flexible learning environment (Morin, 2020).
Change the physical setup of the class or how teachers are allocated.

Student success is reevaluated each term to determine the success of current services.
Adjustments to goals and student services provided are made regularly.
Create a guide (document) with a qualified team.
In the US, this is an Individualized Educational Program (IEP).
The IEP should outline what resources are available to the student and goals for the student in the classroom.
A varied team creates the document.

Individuals asked to attend by the parent or school
Determine whether the student is eligible for special education services according to school and national requirements.
Must complete within one month of finishing evaluations.
Specify what services are covered for the student within the classroom.

Fill out potential school form if available.
