- - - - Juxtaposition is used to convey the idea of injustice. A young student innocently buying snacks/playing video games and then suddenly death occurs. This highlights the fleeting nature at which death can arrive.
      - The camera performs a close up shot of Eva’s face and finally she says “it was Paco. Paco did it.” This shot reveals the indecisive emotion displayed on Eva’s face, implying that she is torn between what is right and wrong. Eva realised that by standing up for what is right, she has the ability to make a difference in society.
  - - - The camera's close up shots reveal the true fears of each individual gang, demonstrating the idea that although some of them are not being shot at, they still show emotion and distress towards these situations.
  - - - The close up of the students literacy levels/academic records reveals their educational disadvantages and establishes Erin Gruwell's challenge. The close up of the student's achievements conveys the impact of voluntary integration on the school and how it has resulted in the loss of academic students. This has resulted in the staff feeling bitter towards their students and unwilling to give them a quality education as they feel they do not deserve it.
      - The montage scene displays a low socioeconomic area in regards to the school. The juxtaposed high angle shot depicts this idea through images of overcrowding and graffiti. In this scene, the students are perceived as rebellious and insubordinate. Therefore giving all teachers the impression that the students are not worthy of a quality education.
