Justice in simple terms is: a concept based on ethics and law that means that people behave in a way that is fair, equal and balanced for everyone.

Access to Justice
IDEA: The text also explores the subversion of justice by a corporation; where a privileged few in a position of power become greedy, lie and abuse their power and trust of the masses.
IDEA: Injustice thrives when good people can do nothing and those in power abuse the trust and naivety
TQE: 55 colloquial language : Ed: So PG & E figures we’ll let the cat out of the bag, tell people the water’s not perfect; if we can ride out the year with no one suing, we’ll be in the clear forever.
Ed is making the knowledge accessible and trying to help them understand the legal accessibility. He is attempting to show an empathy and compassion by in a way ‘dumming down’ the legal text.

Erin: Don’t talk to me like I’m an idiot, okay? I may not have a law degree but I’ve spent 18months on this case and I know more about these plaintiffs than you ever will (rattles off phone numbers of plaintiffs, facts about plaintiffs, aspirations, their conditions and the medical conditions of their families. Erin glares at Theresa indignant.
Accumulation (?)
TQE: 46.15 Tone of disbelief
“You say this stuff, hexavalent chromium, well it's poisonous? Well it’s gotta be different than what’s in our water, cause ours is okay. The guys from PG & E told me. They sat right in the kitchen and said it was fine” Donna’s body actions showed she was shocked and bewildered. She’s in absolute disbelief that they could’ve been lied to by a multi million dollar company. After she is just terrified that she had even believed them. She is almost in a trance of devastation and the sounds of her children playing in the toxic water is the only thing to snap her out of it..

Peter and Rosewood Office Long shot of Ed and Erin presenting signed release forms to Potter
Sarcasm: seeing you were so good to me.. So Ed and I have been putting together a present for you. 634 - all signed... and internal PG&E documents.
Erin: The one I like best says, and I'm paraphrasing here ‘yes the water’s poisonous but it would be better for all involved if this matter was not discussed with the neighbours - from PG&E headquarters to the Hinkley station - stamped and received March 1966.
Potter stammers: How did you do this?
Deadpan delivery
Erin: Seeing I have no brains or legal expertise and Ed was losing all faith...I just went out there and performed sexual favours. 634 blowjobs in 5 days... Exchange of shock. Smile. I’m really quite tired.

they were a large group of people willing to fight for what was right.
DEFINITION: Access to justice is the capacity to use the justice system to plan your life and resolve disputes.
ERIN BORCKOVICH:
Erin makes it very clear throughout the movie that she is not a lawyer and for good reason. It is her lack of knowledge and pure compassion hat out heron top when it comes to control of the case.
Erin has been betrayed multiple times, by the law, by loved ones and never once was she asked what she thought. Helping the residents of Hinkley is based off her humanity and the passion to help those in need but also her own experiences drive her to win the case.
It is Erin’s one on one and face to face time with the residents that ultimately wins the case. When they were left feeling out of control, lot and unknowing of who to trust she was there and was a presence of stability for them someone they could trust and a friend allowing them in on the ways to access justice.
ERIN CHARACTER:
- She is constantly viewed as a sexual object even when conducting business
- She is judged in court for having two failed marriages and raising 3 children as a single mother
- Constantly judged for what she is wearing by not only her coworkers but also boss Ed
- Erin has no degree and because of this is rejected quite quickly when applying for jobs
- Her gender is often used against her as she is stereotyped as a girl who simply knows nothing
- She is viewed negatively for having been a pageant queen
- Having experienced prejudice herself she is clearly able to empathise and fight for those in need.

she is threatened
1:05 Mid shot of Erin answering a phone call with an anonymous voice threatening; use of pause:
You should watch your step. A young lady like yourself with three young children...Do you understand what I'm saying?

dead pan humour
“well I think I look nice and as long as I have one ass instead of two, I’ll wear what I like, if that’s alright with you”
This quote portrays Erin as a powerful figure who is not only proud of her appearance, but also will not take criticism and is quick to fight back against critics. This has the effect of Erin being a figure to be respected and causes the audience to see her character develop into a confident, headstrong woman and a great feministic role model.

Foreshadowing and characterisation
Erin: There are two things that aggravate me Mr Masry - being ignored and being lied to...You told me things would be fine. They’re not. I trusted you.
This reflects what later comes in to the movie which is a reflection of Erin’s situation of trust being manipulated and being taken advantage of simply based off her lack of knowledge, appearance and gender.
