Justice Unit: Erin Brockovich, The medium closeup shot of the neck brace…
-
The medium closeup shot of the neck brace Erin wears infers that she has been physically harmed as a result of the car crash incident. It highlights her vulnerability and portrays how this particular injustice can bring harm to the individual affected.
The group shot of the Hinkley residents highlights how although they are only a small group of people, the injustice has brought various harms to them in serious ways; some having long term health issues, while others having financial strains. Erin brings awareness of the issue to the residents, opening their eyes to the injustice they have faced and therefore persuading them to support her case.
The close up of photographic evidence of a chicken’s death unveils and exposes a struggle of how the physical harm stretches beyond the people of Hinkley and has caused the harm and death of animals also. The death of the chickens may have caused financial and emotional issues for the residents, forcing them to move or avoid having animals all together, as these animals may have provided food or business for families.
One specific family that Erin visits has a child suffering from cancer, caused by the chromium in the water, furthermore inspiring Erin to achieve a sense of justice that this harm caused. This mid shot highlights the family’s sufferings; both financial, mental and physical harm, which eventuates in a great struggle and a long for justice.
After exploring in many areas evidence that might support her case, she asserts her intelligence and knowledge when discussing phone numbers of anyone they ask for, therefore proving her intelligence and worth.
Collaboratively, Erin and the Hinkley community worked together to bring justice to those affected by the PG&E injustice. This difficult work was a strenuous process and consumed a lot of time, but it was worth it in the end as the PG&E community and Erin were able to receive justice.
Erin collects evidence despite the risks that are involved in doing so; such as exposure to toxic water and getting in trouble for being in prohibited zones or work areas. This wide shot exhibits the measures Erin goes to to find evidence to support her case: she’s doing it out of the kindness of her heart, not for the financial reward.
Erin perseveres and continually visits one woman who is unsure about the effects of chromium in the water. Erin is in need of this woman’s help to get the necessary amount of signatures to win the case.
