Osmosis in Potatoes
-
What is osmosis?
Is the diffusion of water across a semi-permeable membrane from an area of high concentration of water, to an area of low concentration.
Semi-permeable membrane: a layer that only certain things can go through. For example, parts of the potato that water can pass through.
-
Hypothesis
The water of the potato placed in saltwater moves out by osmosis, while the potato placed in tap water will absorb the water from outside. Because salty water has a lower concentration of water than tap water.
