Reported speech, DIRECT AND INDIRECT SPEECH, (HERE can become THERE but…
Reported speech
-
-
-
-
Direct speech is found in conversations in books, in plays and in questions.
-
Occasionally, we don't need to change the present tense into the past if the information in direct speech is still true
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
In direct speech we repeat the original speaker’s exact words.
example:
Paul: “Atlanta is a wonderful city.”
Reported Speech
He said that Atlanta was a wonderful city.
-
-
-
HERE can become THERE but only when it is clear what place is meant: I'll HERE again tomorrow
He said that He'd THERE again the next day
Is used to communicate what someone else said, but without using the exact words.
