A story is a narrative account of an event or sequence of events. It can be truth or fiction. But a good story always has a true core element, even if it's fiction. The message the narrative gives must be true. It must be consistent and authentic.
A story adds emotion, characters, and sensory details to simple facts. It is for this reason that a story grabs us, drags us along its plot and powerfully delivers its key message.

To form the continuous past, the auxiliary verb “to be” and the verb + ing are used. The auxiliary verb “to be” is in the past simple, but keep in mind that “to be” is an irregular verb.
