The Fundamental
Why Atomic Habits?
-
Habits are the compound interest of self-improvement. The same way that money multiplies through compound interest.
changes that seem small and unimportant at first will compound into remarkable results if you’re willing to stick with them for years.
Habits create freedom because it enables u to use less energy to do things, and have energy to focus on new challenges.
FORGET ABOUT GOALS, FOCUS ON SYSTEMS INSTEAD
Goals are about the results you want to achieve. Systems are about the processes that lead to those results.
Goals are good for setting a direction, but systems are best for making progress.
Problems of Goals
-
-
- Goals restrict your happiness.
-
When you fall in love with the process rather than the product, you don’t have to wait to give yourself permission to be happy.
- Goals are at odds with long-term progress.
-
Identity based habits
Focus on who you want to become, not what you wanna achieve (outcome based habit)
-
you may start habits with motivation, but the only reason you'll stick with it is it becomes part of your identity.
goal isn't the read the book but to become a reader.
goa isn't to run a marathon, but to become a runner.
-
Steps
-
- Prove it to urself with small wins
It's a feedback loop
-
Use "identity", "values", "principles" drive the loop rather than your results
