Interim/Benchmark
Definition: Is a type of assessment that educators use to evaluate where students are in their learning and to determine if they are on track to performing well on future assessments.
Examples: Benchmarks, STAAR

Formative
Definiton: The process of gathering evidence of student learning, providing students with feedback and adjusting that instruction to enhance achievement.
Examples: Discussions, quizzes
Summative
Definition: Given at the end of a large amount of learning to assess students knowledge and review the content
Examples: Standardized Testing, Final Exams
Diagnostic
Definition: Allows a teacher to determine students' individual strengths, weaknesses, knowledge, and skills prior to instruction.
Examples: Running Records, Interventions
Performance
Definition: An assessment that asks students to perform a task rather than just selecting an answer.
Examples: Dance, Poetry Interpretation
Opening

Guiding
- How would you begin to solve this problem?
- What evidence in the text can you find that helps you to determine which way we have to sort the given numbers.
