Examples - Streams, Rivers, Ponds, Lakes
Streams and Rivers
- At source, water flows slowly
- Plants at bottom provide food for insects and home for frogs
- Stream current increases as larger streams (rivers) are made
- Animals adapted to stronger currents eg. trout - streamlined bodies
- At lower elevation, streams are warmer with less oxygen, affects organisms that live there
Ponds and Lakes
-
- Lakes larger and deeper than ponds
- Ponds shallow so sunlight reaches bottom
- Large ponds - algae at surface are main producers
- Organisms adapted to life in still water
- Bacteria feed on organism's remains
