        some receptors have
        small, well-defined receptive fields
        
        are able to provide precise info
        about the contours of objects
        intending the skin
        
        these receptors are concentrated
        at the fingertips
        
        conversely
        other receptors have
        large receptive fields
        with ill-defined boundaries
        
        these receptors are
        
        not involved in detailed spatial discrimination
        
        but signal information about
        vibration,skin stretch N joint movement
        
        sometimes covering a whole finger
        or a large part of the palm
      - neural pathways
        
        the touch-pressure sensations
        are conveyed to the CNS by
        -A sensory fibers( beta n gamma grup)
        
        some touch impulses are also conducted via
        unmyelinated 'Ç' fibers
        
        touch-pressure info us transmitted
        in both the
        
        dorsal column-medial lemniscal system
        
        fine touch(touch with low threshold of excitation)
        
        detailed tactile localization & discrimination
        
        & ventral/anterior
        spinothalamic tract(spinal lemniscus)
        
        gross tactile sensation of crude touch
        (touch with a high threshold of excitation)
        
        & is poorly localized

        are carried to the CNS by
        
        A gamma
        
        & 'C'group of
        sensory fibers in
        lateral spinothalamic tract
        to the somatosensory area
