Formative
Definition: Formative assessment allows teachers to monitor student learning in order to modify teaching and learning to improve student achievement.
One minute elevator conversations (Exit Ticket): Students will write about the topic they learned for one minute while elevator music plays in the background.

Interim/Benchmark
Definition: Interim/Benchmark assessments are assessments that are periodic throughout the school year used to determine whether students are on track with their learning.

Standardized Tests (STAAR): A Texas standardized test that assesses student achievement and knowledge they learned in that grade level.
Summative
Definition: Summative assessments evaluate student learning at the end of an instructional unit and are of high stakes.
Final Project: Allows students to present their learning throughout the course by creating a project that demonstrates their understanding.
End of course exams: Exams given typically every six to eight weeks to see if students learned the content they were supposed to learn during that course.
Performance
Definition: Performance assessment is an assessment in which students perform a task rather than select an answer.
Debates: Students can take a stance on the subject and have a student led debate which will demonstrate their understanding on the subject.

Diagnostic
Definition: Diagnostic assessments allow teachers to determine students' strengths and weaknesses with a pre-assessment in order to guide the lesson.
Running Records: Teachers assess the students' reading levels by timing them and recording their mistakes.
