Performance
is a type of assessment that requires students to complete a task instead of picking multiple choice answers.
Ex: Reenactment, dance, create their own.
Summative
At the end of a large amount of learning, such as the end of a semester or end of year. An assessment compared to a benchmark or standard.
Ex: End of year final, STAAR, SAT, ACT.

Interim/Benchmark
Used to help teachers determine if students are on track with their learning and also to see if students will do well in future assessments.
Ex: Chapter test, essays, projects
Diagnostic
is a pre-assessment which allows the teacher to see where students are in their knowledge of a subject prior to instruction.
Ex: KWL charts, pre-assessments, quick writes

Formative
Process of gathering student learning, Providing academic feedback, adjusting instruction to reach all students, learners can change behaviors.
Ex: quiz, discussion, homework
