Formative
Definition:
Formative assessment is assessing what students are learning along the way, as they are learning. It is learning about how students are learning. Formative assessments use a variety of methods to conduct in the process evaluations of student learning, comprehension, educational needs, and academic progress throughout the lesson/activity.

Definition: Summative assessment are re often high stakes and they are used to evaluate students learning at the end of an unit they are compared to standards or benchmarks.
