CBA/DBA: subject specific exams, assessing student's readiness for state exams through out the year. This allows teachers to adjust their instruction based on weaknesses.
DRA: Allows teachers to monitor student reading growth at the beginning, middle, and end of the school year.
Performance
Definition
Students perform tasks rather than answering questions on a quiz or test. Shows their ability to apply concepts learned.
Examples
Journal Entries: Students write on the topic learned. The teacher is able to see how well they understand and determine if anything needs to be retaught.
Group/solo projects: Students get to portray their learning in an interactive way so they can utilize the concepts learned out side of the textbook.
Diagnostic
Definition
Shows where students stand prior to instruction. Can be used to guide planning of lessons, and to differentiate instruction for students.

Running Records: Allows teachers to monitor and adjust student's reading levels throughout the school year.
Summative
Definition
End of a unit or year testing, showing a student's retention over the unit/ year. High stakes.
