Formative
Definition: Formative is the process of gathering student information in a way that helps adjust instruction that benefits students. Usually not a grade.
Observation: A teacher can walk around the room and observe students work. The teacher must look at the work and listen to specific comments about the lesson from students.

Exit tickets: Exit tickets can have one to two questions that requires students to answer. This helps to see what the students understand or any mistakes made when solving the problem.
Summative
Definition: Summative assessments are used to evaluate student learning after every unit. This is to score overall learning, and is graded.
Project Presentation: Students can present the content learning and their understanding in a presentation.

Perfomance
Definition: Performance tests require students to complete a certain task. This does not require solving or answering questions.
Acting it out: Students can act out a certain key part of the book to show their understanding of the story.
Creating a video: Students can create a video of to demonstrate their knowledge of a particular topic.

Closing

Diagnostic
Definition: Diagnostics are given to students before the lesson or unit. This will guide the teacher with any misconceptions students may have to adjust the instruction and lesson.
Pre-assessment: Is given before the lesson to have an idea of what students know, then after the lesson, they can be given the same assessment. This will show student growth or any misconceptions before the learning and after.
Running records: Is a strategy to access students reading levels, which can be a guide to help students improve.
