Formative
Definition: Small comprehension checks utilized throughout a lesson to decide what the next steps should be. Depending on these assessments one may need to reteach or be able to move on.
1 Question Quiz: Simply one practice question used to test students level of the given unit. This can be used in the middle of the lesson before breaking out into groups or at the end of the day to use for planing the next day.
One Sentence Summary: Students are expected to share what they have learned in one sentence. This can then be shared to the class or turned in to the teacher.

Diagnostic
Definition: An assessment given before a unit or at the beginning of the school year to test student ability and point achievement gaps. These assessments help to guide how the lesson should be set up.
Pre-assessments: Tests given at the beginning of a unit or start of year to help decide student grouping and lesson structure.
KWL Chart: This is what the child knows, whats to know, and learned. The K and W column can be used at the beginning of a lesson to judge where students are with the concept.
