Interim/Benchmark
Definition: monitor student progress towards mastery. Allows teacher and school district to know if a student is on track for grade level.
Example #1: CBA- based on material that a student is expected to have mastered. Can be used every nine weeks.
Example #2: STAR- State of Texas standardized test used to determine the achievement of students in a grade level.

Formative
Definition: process of monitoring student learning that provide feedback to the teacher to make changes to instruction. Low point value and low stakes
Example #1: Exit Tickets- students answer topic questions based on the lesson. Can simply jot down what they have learned or can be used to have the students summarize the topic using different word counts. To allow the answer to be a simply sentence to a paragraph.
Example #2: One-Minute Paper- students are given a topic question and given one minute to write everything that they know about the topic.

Summative
Definition: process of evaluating students learning at the end of a unit. High point value and high stakes
Example #1: Final Project- student complete a project about the unit. This project will include a rubric for students to follow to ensure that all are graded based on the same attributes.

Diagnostic
Definition: inform teachers of the achievement gaps and abilities that students have in a unit. Done at the start of a unit to determine each students strength and weakness.
Example #2: KWL- allows the teacher to see what the students know before starting, what that want to learn, and what they have learned. Allows the student to do a brain dump of all the information they know before the lesson. Teachers can also see the misconceptions that students have about the unit.
Example #1: DRA- used to determine the reading level of each students. Helps to see where each student is at in comprehension and decoding

Performance
Definition: tasks that are creted for students to show what they know. Used to allow students to demonstrate understanding and apply knowledge to a situation
Example #1: Group Projects: creating presentations based on the unit. Presentations can be creating using various platforms including PowerPoint, Nearpod, or poster board.
Example #2: Portfolios- folder or notebook that has a collection of the students work within the unit. Shows the students improvements and understanding of the material within the unit.
