Apgar Scale
:
Given to the newborn after birth; 1, 5 minutes when necessary.
Apgar means "appearance, pulse, grimace, activity & Respiration.
Checks a baby heart rate, muscle tone, & other sign to see if extra medical care is needed.
Appearance; skin color❤ pulse; heart rate❤ Grimace response; reflexes❤ Activity ; muscle tone ❤ respiration ; breathing rate & effort
5 things are used to check a baby's health. Each is scored on a scale of 0 to 2, 2 being the best score.
Score of 7 or above on the test is considered in good health.
A lower score does not mean that the baby is unhealthy. It means that the baby needs some immediate medical care.
Stanford-Binet Intelligence Scales
It is a cognitive ability & intelligence test that is used to diagnose developmental or intellectual deficiencies in young children.
The test measures the 5 factors; knowledge, quantitative reasoning; visual-spatial processing, working memory and fluid reasoning.
It was initially created by French Psychologist Alfred Binet who following the introduction of a law mandating universal education for French govt; began developing a method of identifying slow children so that they can be placed in special education program.
