Interim/Benchmark:
Definition: This type of assessment is use to evaluate where students are in their learning progress and to determine whether they are on track to perform well on future assessments.

Benchmark: A practice test for the official state standardized test. Students get to see what they need to work on to improve on the state test. Some schools give these test every 6-9 weeks.
Diagnostic
Definition: Is a form of a pre-assessment to determine what a students knows and their misconceptions before learning new content.
Pre-Assessment Quiz: Short quiz to determine a student's knowledge before starting a new unit. This helps the teacher understand how to move forward with instructiom.
KWL Chart: Students state what they know and what they would like to know about a topic, and then finish with what they have learned after going over the content.

Performance
Definition: An assessment where the students have to perform a task. It can be open ended and without a single correct answer.
Acting-it-out: Students can be assessed by acting out or performing a task. For example, retelling a story by performing what they learn while reading.
Presentations: Students have to give a presentation on how to do something or teach something to the class. This is a way students can learn from their peers and see others perspectives about a a topic.
