Formative
Definition: Formative assessment consists of different methods that teachers use to conduct in-process evaluations of student comprehension, learning needs, and academic progress during a lesson. It provides feedback and allows teachers to adjust instruction strategies to enhance achievement.
3-2-1 Exit Ticket: For this exit ticket students will list 3 things they learned, 2 things they found interesting, and 1 question they still have.

Quick Write: Students are given a prompt about what they just learned. They then think for one minute and then have three minutes to write about that prompt.

Interim/Benchmark
Definition: An interim/benchmark is a test that is given at different intervals during a school year. This test checks for students' knowledge on content and guides future instruction.
STAAR: Standardized test used in Texas that is given to evaluate students' knowledge and growth in their grade level.

Summative
Definition:Summative takes place at the end of a large chunk of learning. Often high stakes meaning that they have a high point value.

Major Cumulative Project: A multifaceted assignment that is usually given at the end of the year. It is usually in the form of a final product, presentation, or performance.

Diagnostic
Definition:Diagnostic assessments are a form of pre-assessments. They allow teachers to see students' strengths, weaknesses, knowledge, and skills prior to the instruction. This types of assessment is used to determine student difficulties and guide the planning of the lesson.
SAT Prep:This is a practice test that determines what a students strengths and weaknesses are. The results will allow students to know how well they are currently scoring on the SAT.

Diagnostic Questionnaires: This is a quick questionnaire that allows students to express their level of interest and understanding. They can be made anonymous so students are honest.

Performance
Definition:This type of assessment requires students to perform a task instead of answering questions from a test.
Planning a field trip: Students can show their knowledge of writing explanatory texts by planning a school field trip.
