Assessments
Formative
A form of assessment used to check for student learning while providing student feedback. Also used to adjust instruction strategies to enhance achievement.
Ex: discussions; quizzes.
Summative
End of unit assessment to review what was taught. Criteria for insuring high-quality assessment.
Ex. Final exams; research project.
performance
Students create, perform, or design to demonstrate the content learning.
Ex: recital, project, presentation
Diagnostic
Inform of student achievement gaps and other academic abilities. Diagnostics are often given on the first day of class before starting a new course or new unit to help identify students strengths, weaknesses, and misconceptions.
Ex: Pre-course test exams; short answer written questions.
Interim/Benchmark
Periodic testing throughout the school year with little to no student feedback.
Ex: Six-week test; STAAR test.
