Separating Substances
Filtration 
Apparatus required:Filter paper, funnel, beaker

The mixture is passed through filter paper. The leftover solid in the filter paper is called the residue.

Sedimentation and decantation- A process through which large particles settle down in water and then the water is pored out of the container leaving the particles.
Centrifugation
Test tubes are rotated on a centrifuge. The most force is felt at the end of the test tubes so the heaviest particles settle there.
A method of separating small particles from a colloidal solution(the particles are so small that they can't be separated through filtration.
Example: Milk, blood, chalk powder

Amino acids in chromatography-Since Amino acids give a colourless chromatogram we dry the paper and spray it with a locating agent(ninhydrin) which reacts with the amino acid making it visible.
