Product Comparison
IKEA- VITTSJO
Budget
The budget for this product is relatively low as, in addition to being simple and functional, it is designed and made to cheaper and more affordable than many of its designer counterparts. As well as this, the main material used is steel coated by an epoxy/polyester powder coating- cheaper than other materials of methods of material protection (such as the use of stainless steel).
Aestetics
While it may not be as aesthetically pleasing as the other coffee table, this product could be considered good-looking in its modern design and simplicity. It is clean and makes use of pure geometric forms and materials so as to provide its aesthetic qualities.
Sustainability
Both the main materials used (tempered glass and powder coated steel) can be recycled and reused as well as being longer lasting materials. This makes the material choices practical and, while the metal is not a sustainable material choice, reusable and recyclable.
Functionality
It is functional in that it provides a suitable surface to place items on and is at an appropriate height to accommodate this. Its functionality is further extended by the circular support for the legs being able to be used as a secondary surface for items.
Purpose/ Function
This product fits its required function/ purpose well in that it provides a flat, level surface to place items on and is made to an appropriate height to accommodate this. In addition to the tempered glass surface, the circular support for the legs below could double up as a secondary surface to use which serves to extend its functionality and gives the product more purpose.
Innovation
This design is a bit more standard and contains more common features and ideas than the other coffee table but is still innovative none the less. The design utilises the conventional 4 legged structure but has circular surfaces giving it an overall cylindrical shape as opposed to the common cuboid shapes often seen (such as in the other coffee table).

Opinion of Other(s)
In respect to the aesthetics of the product, it is the worse of the two as it is simple and boring, yet still not bad to look at- just the lesser of the two options. However, it is considerably more affordable than the other as well as being more practical to move around to where it's needed (important due to the layout of the room it would be used in) or to clean around (e.g- hoover under).

Introduction: Comparing similar products available on the market to potential customers is important as it provides the designer/designers with useful knowledge for when they design products of their own; such as design styles/ movements incorporated into the design, materials used, colours used, etc. This way they can better target certain markets or generate more successful sales. Additionally it can give then an idea as to their competitors also vying for sales, potentially from the same target market.
