LSVT Loud (1)
Features of LSVT
-
Concomitant impv: articulation, rate, overall intelligibility
Intensive program: 1 hour per day for 4 days a week. For 1 month, 16 sessions
-
Think loud: max phonatory effort, high therapeutic effort, increase voice awareness and use. Give the power back to them
-
-
Problem w self perception, monitoring in Parkinson's
-
Over-learning- becomes habit, strengthen motor learning pattern
Increase, impv VF adduction, respiratory drive
-
-
-
-
Daily practice build increments of vocal effort, sensory feedback
-
-
Scales up amplitude of output of laryngeal, respiratory function (self-monitoring can be skewed too, think that they are too loud on exercise)
-
-
Instrumentation: sound pressure lvl meter, stopwatch
Used to motivate and reinforce, helps to convince pt as part of callibration process
-
Population it targets:
Conditions:hypokinetic dysphonia, dysarthria, decreased volume, monotony of pitch and loudness, imprecise articulation
Health problems: stroke, multiple sclerosis, cerebral palsy, down syndrome
Notes: Every vocal exercise can cause damage if not taught and executed correctly; Change pt's behaviour through model "Do what I do".
Successes: Pre post test results showed that she has mastered thinking loud, her confidence lvls increased, not much hoarseness, glottal fry, better respiratory coordination. Facial expressions came back, saliva control might be better
