Assessments

Formative: A low stakes method of assessment used by teachers use to give feedback, guide instruction and monitor learning

Quiz or exit tickets: Simple question(s) that is posed to all students prior to class ending. Students write their answers on a card or piece of paper and hand it in as they exit.

Class Discussions: This can be whole group (whole class discussion) or students can share with an elbow partner by responding to a discussion question . After each person has had a chance to share their ideas, the pair can then share out to the group.

Interim/ Benchmark :A comparison of student understanding or performance against a set of uniform standards within the same school year.

STAAR: A series of standardized tests used in Texas public primary and secondary schools to assess a student's achievements and knowledge learned in the grade level.

SAT: A standardized test used for college admissions, which allows college administrators to compare the abilities of incoming students.

Summative: An evaluation of student learning at the end of an instructional unit by comparing it against some standard or benchmark.

End-of-unit or chapter tests:Research paper or model

H.O.T. Questions

Performance:A product or something produced by students providing concrete examples of the application of knowledge. Students can create, perform, and/or provide a critical response.

Science Lab Demonstration:Laboratory demonstrations provide opportunities for students to interact directly with the material , using the tools, data collection techniques, models, and theories of science.

Debate: A formal discussion on a particular topic in which the participants state their arguments in favor of or against the said topic.

Diagnostic: Used to identify current student knowledge and or possible misconceptions about a topic. Useful as pre and post assessments.

KeyMath: A way to individually measure student's mathematical concepts and skills.

SAT-prep course This study course is designed to teach the key math, reading, and writing concepts in the actual test. It may also provide test-taking strategies and the general structure of the SAT.
