Goal selection
-
Target the non-default features. Chn with phon disorder often overuse default features. Need to reduce this
Exploit phon tendencies: easier in final position are nasals, approximants, vowels, [+nasal, +continuant,-voiced]
Exploit phon tendencies: easier in onset position are [+voiced, +labial]
-
Targeting more than one exemplar of category (eg. 2 frics) while leaving some targets w/i category as obsv target (to test whether generalisation is happening)
Intelligibility: if possible to determine what might enhance intelligibility, this should enter into process of goal selection
Impt msgs
Works on constraints approach (processes are constraints), there are multiple solutions to one constraint)
Ask what is possible, where is it possible, what word positions
Work from there to identify how to use current skills in other situations (use old to build the new)

Defns
New stuff
Syllable, word structure, features that are missing, very marginal in child's system
When targeting new element, it is effective to use some old element to support it eg putting new features in existing word shapes, target new word shapes using old features
Old stuff
Features or word shapes the child already uses which are then used in new locations, new combinations
