The main idea
The main idea is the vengance of Hugh Glass, for the dead of his son.
Plot
A fur trapper called Hugh Glass travel to the actual Dakota territory with a team of men, but after a brutal encounter with a bear gets injured, and is betrayed by his team, that abandon him to die and kill his son; he survives and start looking for revenge.
Settings
The story happened in 1823, in the territory of the present-day Dakotas.
Message
The message in the movie is the powerful spirit of the human to do the things they want. In this case, the main character was a few steps to be dead, but the vengeance for his son make him stay alive.
Comparison
In the movie he had a son and a wife that was killed before the events of the movie, but in the real life Hugh Glass didn't have a son, and probably he didn't even had a wife; also he never get's his revenge, he end up forgetting about Fitzgerald and Bridger.
