ORGANELLE FUNCTIONS
PLASMA MEMBRANE- the membrane of the surface on animal cells and inside the cell wall of plant cells. regulates the movement of substances in and out the cell
CELL WALL- a rigid structure that surrounds plant cells. its function is to support plant cells. it is mainly made of cellulose
NUCLEUS- surrounded by an envelope and nuclear pores. it controls the cells activities by controlling the transcription of DNA
LYSOSOME- contains digestive enzymes to digest invading cells or break down faulty components of the cell.
RIBOSOME- moves free in cytoplasm or attached to RER, it is the site of protein synthesis

MITOCHONDRION- site of aerobic respiration, where ATP is produced, found in cells that require lots of energy

MICROSCOPES
TEM- use electromagnets to focus beam, transmitted through the specimen. high resolution and magnification. expensive, slow to set up. B+W image, hard to transport
SEM- scan a beam of electrons across specimen. image produced shows the surface of the specimen and can be 3d. give lower resolution than TEM. B+W image. slow to set up. expensive. hard to transport
LM- low resolution and magnification, relatively cheap and easy to set up and transport. specimens can be dead or alive.
